Sandra York has an extensive background in the non-profit sector. Her experience includes associations, foundations, and education (both hands-on and at the leadership level).
Prior to joining AMR, Sandra worked at Wayne State University as Director of Operations for the WSU Mathematics Pipeline (a series of programs that works with Detroit students from elementary school through college). She was responsible for overseeing existing programs as well as participating in development of new programs and facilitating their implementation.
While at the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Sandra held the position of Director of Special Projects, which encompassed oversight, development, and implementation of all pro bono and public service programs of the association and its affiliated Foundation. She was both writer and editor for the Association's news magazine and for PR articles submitted to local newspapers.
For nearly ten years, Sandra worked with Project SEED, teaching topics from high school and college level mathematics to elementary and middle school students using a Socratic methodology. She has also worked with at risk students in weekend and summer programs. Sandra has conducted inservice workshops for educators, locally and nationally, and has trained and provided on-going support for mathematics specialists.
Throughout her career Sandra has successfully secured funds for both organizations and individual programs and initiatives. Her experience includes grant writing, soliciting individual and corporate donations and conducting fundraising events.
